When I was trying to decide on a pattern for Isaiah's 3 year old quilt I came across this pattern called, "Britches". It made me think of him right away because he has this fetish about always having his pants on. After he's been changed, or has gone potty, or is going to nap...whatever...it's, "Gamma. Pants...on", with a pause between the two words. At times he'll just motor around the house chanting, "Pants...pants...pants!" And the word is pronounced with more of a soft "o", than a soft "a". Very cute.
I liked the colorfulness of the pattern also. The quilt will be named, "Little Man Pants", Little Man being our favorite nickname for him. Joann's had a great sale going on this week and I was able to get all the homespun fabrics for about $20.
Homespun fabric is fabric that is woven in a style similar to the fabrics that primitive women used when weaving their own fabrics at home. While today's homespuns are usually manufactured in factories, the unique style of weaving colored threads together to form a pattern still remains the primary characteristic of all homespuns. A homespun fabric is usually all cotton and can be identified by the fact that there is no front or back to the fabric. The design is in the color of the threads so both sides are the same. True homespuns are always either plaid, stripe or solid.
The solid fabric on the bottom will be the neutral that goes between the little pants sections. The colors are a bit brighter than this photo shows, with a combination of blues, reds, greens, browns, and aquas.
Isaiah is such an all-boy, rough and tumble kind of child, and this quilt really made me think of a tough little country farm kid. I hope he loves it.
