I never tire...

I never tire of photographing the red canoes at Ricketts. It seems they are perpetually waiting for me to get there, all in a row and posed for the camera. They are beautiful in all weather. When it's rainy the red gleams with an intense depth. When it's overcast it appears subdued and matte. In the bright sun they project happiness and verve.

We spent our 4th of July sitting under the trees beside Lake Jean in Rickett's Glen State Park, a favorite spot for me for the past, well, close to 40 years! While others fought with grills and such in the heat we opted for our usual simple lunch of sandwiches; ham salad, with sweet onion, fresh tomato, and alfalfa sprouts. Gary napped and read us jokes between napping. Sara knitted and read. I did a bit of hand work, read a bit, took walks around snapping pictures. The beach was busy but we sat off to the side of it with an open view of water and boats. There was a constant breeze off the water. It was an extremely relaxing day. And then, the traditional stop for ice cream at the Pump n' Pantry on the way home.
Much hotter when we got home!

I was entertained by this mama mallard and her little flock, who were almost as big as she was! She actually looked tired!
This morning (Saturday) I got up at 6:30 and it was in the 70's already! Yikes! Not sure the bedroom dropped below the 80's all night! We are hoping for these thunder storms predicted to cool things off a bit but they are not due until later in the day, if at all. But the garden is loving it! If I can keep things hydrated I think we'll have good produce this season.

  2. We were just remarking about how long it's been since we've been to Ricketts Glen. Our kids would absolutely LOVE that place, especially the falls trails. Texas parks can't hold a candle to that paradise.
